Positieve Chamakh

Marouane Chamakh remains convinced that Arsenal can salvage their season by winning the Premier League.

The Moroccan striker was among those thwarted by goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar as Arsène Wenger's side were knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend by Manchester United. That disappointment compounded the pain caused by Arsenal's Carling Cup defeat to Birmingham and their Champions League exit at Barcelona.

The players and fans have been hurting since last Saturday but Chamakh knows that bringing the title to Emirates Stadium for the first time would be a perfect tonic.

"It's true that we are currently in a difficult period: we're out of the Carling Cup, the Champions League and now the FA Cup," Chamakh told Arsenal.com.

"The final thing for us to focus on is the League and, knowing the lads and the qualities we have, I think we can win it. There are ten games left until the end of the season, there is no longer any room for failure, we have run out of excuses as we are out of all three Cups.

"We are frustrated but we can win this title this season. It's the right time. This is the last stretch of a long road to the title and we need to work hard."

Arsenal go into this weekend's fixtures three points behind Man United having played a game less. Their old rivals visit Emirates Stadium on May 1 in what will no doubt be billed as a 'title decider'. For now though, Chamakh only has eyes for Saturday’s opponents, West Brom.

"It's an important game, like any other," he said. "We need to win this away game in order to stay in the race for the title. We've been working really hard this week to get the right result.

"Yes these are difficult times but we need to keep our heads high and get this title. We have what it takes to do it. I want to win something this year and to achieve something great with my team-mates."
