Marouane Chamakh, مروان الشماخ already forgotten?

So, Marouane Chamakh has been relegated to the bench and already Arsenal fans are beginning to turn on him. It's really ridiculous how fickle some fans can be. The Moroccan hasn't found the back of the net in quite a while now, yet even though he is a striker and is primarily paid to score goals, he does so much more than that. His overall play is generally brilliant; he is tireless, which helps Arsenal's pressing game. His touch is very cultured and his unselfishness is remarkable and essential for a passing team like Arsenal.

He is obviously quite tired after carrying out striking burden for four months, much longer than both he and Arsene Wenger expected. The manager and the player have both come out and admitted that the striker is feeling quite jaded, but it's absolutely understandable given the absolutely key role he's played for the front end of the season. He has scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 28 appearances in all competitions, which is a pretty good return for a striker in his first season at a club like Arsenal, deputizing for a brilliant forward like Robin van Persie.

Can anyone recall what happened last season when van Persie was injured for a long stretch of the year? Andrey Arshavin was played at center-forward and it just did not work despite the Russian's impeccable technique and creativity. Imagine if Chamakh had not come into the Arsenal squad this season. Would Nicklas Bendtner have had the impact that Chamakh did? I sincerely doubt it and without Chamakh, Arsenal probably would not be in such a great position in the league right now. He set the foundation for the team to launch a strong title challenge and I'm sure he will play a bigger role in the weeks to come, once he's had a great rest.
When they've got to go to the sort of places Arsenal really don't like to go to, Chamakh will be an indelible asset with his strength, size and movement as well as his incredible heading ability.
Wenger's done a good job of managing Chamakh this season. He is giving his player a true rest, and when he comes out of that rest, expect great things from him.
