Marouane third best African Player

The massive African Football website MTNFootball has conducted a poll of over 12,000 Africans to find out who they think is the best African player in the Premiership, and the Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh finished third overall with 18% of the votes cast in his favour.
Surprisingly the Chelsea pair of Michael Essien and Didier Drogba were placed 4th and 6th respectively, while the first two places were won by the Sunderland duo, Asamoah Gyan and Ahmed Al-Muhammadi.
Gyan was far and away the most popular choice as the Ghana international striker won 38% of the vote, while the Egyptian Al-Muhammadi was a clear second on 25%.
With Essien in fourth, the massive surprise was that West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie was placed fifth ahead of Didier Drogba with 2.1 percent. The Chelsea striker gained a paltry 1.7% of the poll.
Arsenal’s Alex Song came 7th, while Steven Pienaar (who may join Arsenal for free next summer!) was in eighth position.

The exact voting figures were:
1. Asamoah Gyan (Sunderland/Ghana) – 37.8%
2. Ahmed Al-Muhammadi (Sunderland/Egypt) – 25.6%
3. Marouane Chamakh (Arsenal/Morocco) – 18.3%
4. Michael Essien (Chelsea/Ghana) – 13.5%
5. Peter Odemwingie (West Brom/Nigeria) – 2.1%
6. Didier Drogba (Chelsea/Cote d’Ivoire) – 1.7%
7. Alex Song (Arsenal/Cameroon) – 0.7%
8. Steven Pienaar (Everton/South Africa) – 0.3%
